National Music Month: Yothu Yindi

Although they're probably most noted for their activist song "Treaty", "Dots on the Shell" was how I was introduced to Yothu Yindi and remains one of my favourite songs of theirs.

Dryad

There are some trees in this world that make it very easy for me to believe dryads are real and plants have their own personalities.
This is one of those trees. My favourite in the Coffs Botanical Garden..
I feel like I could have a conversation with this tree, but you know what? I couldn't even tell you off the top of my head what kind of tree it is.. whoops!

Just a quick post today since a storm is rolling on in, time to shut down the computer!

Vintage Linens

It was only a matter of time; searching out the doilies and serviettes and hankies that I embroider on inevitably lead me next to the sheets and pillowcases.
And at fifty cents each how can I possibly refuse?

I'm pretty picky when it comes to my linens though as far as style and condition goes, but slowly yet surely I'm building together a new hobby: collecting linens.



Here's my current spread of pillow cases all freshly cleaned and laundered.

Making my bed has never been so enjoyable!

I'm rediculously happy curling up in bed and sleeping because of these.

National Music Month: Midnight Oil

Talk about iconic Australian musicians! Clearly Australia thinks so too as this song snuck in at #97 on this years hottest 100 songs of all time countdown.
Caught up in Olympic fever, I remember being brought to tears watching them play at the Sydney Olympic Games with the words "sorry" written across their chest; a powerful statement for the time.

Halloweenie

Best holiday ever?



So Halloween isn't that big of a deal over here, The shops are all getting onto it because of the consumerist slant, but for the past couple of years I've noticed it's mostly about parties at the local bar or your mates place then the full-on Halloween experience you get in the Northern Hemisphere.
But yeah, any excuse to dress up! Originally I intended to head in to the local pub for the evening, but ended up "losing interest" (chickened out *sigh*) but at least the dressing up part was fun; that's the best bit anyways.

ANYWAYS so, having decided on a night in after all you can imagine my shock when I ended up getting a pair or trick or treaters(!!) These two cute little girls were going around with their Dad ACTUALLY trick or treating!
Well.. I had a little bit of a panic attack since I certainly wasn't expecting anything so I was all "Oh yes! Aren't you two beautiful!" and in a tone that'd break your heart they ask "Do you have any lollies?" And, picturing these two poor girls standing on similar doorsteps in front of baffled homeowners who were similarly not prepared, I go "uh.. I sure do, let me just run upstairs real quick and get some.."
I hurry inside, starting to sweat a little bit, inner monologue is going a bit like:
Okay, okay, you have to have something...  Well, I have apples I just bought them yesterday... APPLES?! How LAME is that!
Okay... uh.. OH! Tiny Teddies! You bought those individual packs for the nieces the other week you had some left over right?
Didn't you eat those yourself the other day?
God Damn it.. there has to be SOMETHING..
Unpopped popcorn snack bags don't count..
WAIT! What's this?
Are they chocolate?
THEY ARE CHOCOLATE!

God I wonder how long these have been in the bottom of that cupboard..

So there you go, actual trick or treaters this year, I wonder if it's going to become more of a serious thing?

Triple j is featuring a tribute concert to Paul Kelly coming up soon, and I have to agree, he's one of my favourite Australian musicians.
"From St. Kilda to King's Cross" is one of my favourite of his songs.
